What is Hakone Shrine?

Flag of Hakone Shrine

"Hakone Shrine" is a shrine located in Lake Ashi, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The torii gate floating on the lake is characteristic, and it is a venerable power spot with a history of more than 1200 years.

Recently, we will introduce "Hakone Shrine," which is also a popular spot for Instagram.

Profit of Hakone Shrine

Torii of Hakone Shrine

Three gods are enshrined at Hakone Shrine, and there are benefits such as "safety, easy delivery, and good luck."

Nowadays, it is said that it is also effective for "traffic safety and marriage" in combination with mountain worship.

I will briefly introduce the three gods that are enshrined.

XNUMX. XNUMX.Gourd (Ninigi no Mikoto): Commonly known as Ninigi

He is the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, and has benefits such as a good harvest and national well-being.

Introduction of Ninigi

・ I like beauty, and I fell in love with Sakuyabime, which I will introduce next, and got married by electric shock.
・ Sakuyabime's father advised me, "How about my sister, Iwanagahime?", But refused because "I can't because it's ugly."
・ A god who seems to burn up quickly in modern times because he immediately says what he thinks.

XNUMX.Konohanasakuya Bime: Commonly known as Sakuyabime

Ninigi's wife has benefits such as easy delivery.

Introduction of Sakuyabime

・ Because I was in a mess overnight, my husband Ninigi suspected chastity.
・ Because Iwanagahime, the older sister of Busu, cursed her pregnancy, humans have reached the end of their lives.
・ The boss of "Asama Shrine", which has about 1300 companies all over Japan.

Three.Hikoho Hoori Mikoto: Commonly known as Hoori

It is a child of Ninigi and Sakuyabime, and has benefits such as good luck.

Introduction of Hoori

・ Sakuyabime, who was suspected of having an affair by Ninigi, said, "Your child will be born safely no matter what the situation!I was born while the fire was burning because I set fire before giving birth.
-The other name "Yamasachihiko" is more famous and became a model for Taro Urashima.
・ Grandpa of Emperor Jimmu, who is said to be the first emperor
・ By the way, the youngest of triplets. All triplets have "fire" in their names.

When I arranged the episodes, all the gods were strange, but they should be almost the same.

The description changes a little depending on whether it is Kojiki or Japanese clerk.

Visit Hakone Shrine

Entrance of Hakone Shrine

Let's visit Hakone Shrine.

The shrine was founded in 757 years and was strongly worshiped by samurai, especially from the Kamakura period to the Warring States period.

The approach to Hakone Shrine

I will go on a quiet road.

Sugi, which is said to be 600 to 800 years old, is rugged.

Hakone Shrine stairs

The approach to Hakone Shrine

There is a staircase in front of the main shrine, but this steep slope was created by a lava flow.

The eruption about 2 years ago caused lava to flow up to this staircase.

This is the main shrine of Hakone Shrine.

During the Kamakura period, he worshiped Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo, and during the Warring States period, he worshiped big names such as Ieyasu Tokugawa.

There are benefits to almost anything.

Torii of Peace

Torii of Hakone Shrine

Many people think of Hakone Shrine as a torii gate floating on this lake.

In fact, the history of the torii is still short, and it was built as a "Torii of Peace" in commemoration of the 1952 San Francisco Peace Treaty.

The word "peace" written by Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida is displayed on the torii gate.

I can't see it from a distance.

Torii of Hakone Shrine

There is a reason why I only take pictures from a distance.

I can usually go under the torii gate, but now I couldn't get close to it due to corona measures.

Sorry.

Happy kashiwa mochi

"Happy Kashiwa Mochi" at Hakone Shrine

It was a pity that I couldn't get close to the torii gate, so instead I cheated with the famous "happy kashiwa mochi".

It seems that it was introduced in the TV program "Shabekuri 007".

"Happy Kashiwa Mochi" at Hakone Shrine

It has a cute heart shape.

The inside wasn't heart-shaped!

The price is 400 yen, so I wanted some effort.

The precincts are open 24 hours a day and you can worship for free.

If the main shrine and torii are not crowded, the worship time is about 15 to 30 minutes.

There is a charge for the treasure hall, but unless you are a history enthusiast, I think the contents of the exhibition are a bit tough.

It takes about 15 minutes on foot from Motohakone Port to reach Hakone Shrine.

The recommended route is "Hakone Ropeway (Owakudani)-> Hakone Pirate Ship-> Motohakone Port-> Walk".

The reason this route is good is that it is not easily affected by the suspension of the ropeway.

Details are explained on the Hakone Pirate Ship page.

Benzaiten of Hakone Shrine

Hakone Shrine is a historical shrine with a long history, although the torii gates floating on the lake are often mentioned.

You can just look at it from the top of the boat, but if you want to take a walk around Lake Ashi, be sure to visit it as well.
