What is Kimono Forest?
Kimono Forest is a tourist attraction located at Arashiyama Station in Kyoto.
A number of poles with real kimono (Kyo Yuzen) are lined up, making it a beautiful area that is lit up at night.
This time, I will introduce such Kimono Forest.
Located at Arashiyama Station on the Randen
Kimono Forest was created in 2013 to commemorate the renewal of Arashiyama Station on Randen.
About 600 Kimono Forests are lined up around the station with the momentum of "standing a pole if there is a gap".
Designed by Yasumichi Morita
The design was done by Yasumichi Morita. The person who worked on the interior of the main building of the Isetan Shinjuku store.
Personally, I felt a sense of intimacy because I was in charge of the set for the travel program "Another Sky."

Highlights of Kimono Forest
Use real kimono
There are 15 types of kimono patterns used, and a total of 30 types including different colors.
The kimono was produced by the "Kyoto Kameda Tomi Dyeing Factory", which has been in business for over 100 years.
When I looked at the homepage thinking, "I wonder if it's a traditional long-established store ...", I found that I was making an aloha shirt with Kyoto Yuzen.
It seems that it was created as a means to convey Kyoto Yuzen to the present, and when you look at it, you will want one, but the price was light and it was over XNUMX yen, so it was brought back to reality.

Dragon Atagoike
On the south side of Arashiyama Station, there is "Ryu no Atago Pond".
It is likened to Tenryuji Temple near the station, and the "dragon" is the guardian deity of the station.
The guidebook says, "If you soak your hands in water, you can make your trip safer," but be aware that if someone who doesn't know anything sees you, you will be treated as a weirdo.
Station footbath
There is also a footbath on the platform of Arashiyama Station.
Let's pay 200 yen at the station window to use it. (It's free to enter the home. There is no ticket gate.)
Since it uses the hot springs of Arashiyama Onsen, it will be a proper footbath for hot springs.
The usage fee is 200 yen, and a towel to wipe your feet is also included.
Light up at night
From sunset to 21:00, the Kimono Forest will be lit up with LEDs.
This is a must-see sight when you come to Arashiyama.
Even in the same place, you will get a different impression from daytime.
In particular, "Ryu no Atagoike" is a popular shooting spot.
Recommended time zone
After all, the recommended time zone is night.
Compared to daytime, the beauty is tripled.
However, be prepared for crowds at night.
I try my best to take pictures so that no one can enter, but in reality there are always this many people.
When you take a picture, keep in mind the spirit of concession.
If you visit in the morning, arrive by around 8:00.
There shouldn't be so many tourists yet.
Travel time is 5 to 15 minutes
It only surrounds a small station, so it only takes 5 minutes to look around.
I think 15 minutes is enough even if you take a picture slowly.
Let's stop by during sightseeing in Arashiyama.
Opening hours
Opening hours | Open 24 hours (light up from sunset to 21:00)
Closing days | open every day of the year
Tour fee | Free |
It's open 24 hours a day, so you can go see it anytime.
I'm grateful that there aren't many sightseeing spots at night in Kyoto.
Access
Address | 〒616-8384 Sagatenryuji Tsukiji-cho, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto
Electric train | ・ 0 minute walk from Arashiyama Station ・ 10 minutes walk from Hankyu train "Arashiyama station" ・ 10 minutes walk from JR "Saga-Arashiyama" |
It is a spot attached to Arashiyama Station of Randen, but it is not recommended to visit by Randen.
Randen operates only with two cars at the maximum, so it is very crowded during the tourist season.
There is no problem if you use it in the morning or late at night, but if you move in the daytime, use the Hankyu train or JR as much as possible.

Finally
Kimono Forest is a very accessible spot in the center of Arashiyama.
You can enjoy it for free at any time, so when you go sightseeing in Arashiyama, make sure to visit it once in the morning or at night.
