What is Fukushuen?

Scenery of Fuzhou Garden

Fukushuen is a Chinese-style garden located in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture.

You may be wondering, "Why is there a Chinese garden in Okinawa?", But Okinawa is a region that has a deep connection with China both geographically and historically.

This time, we will introduce a full-scale Chinese garden that you can enjoy in the center of Okinawa.

History of Fuzhou Garden

Fuzhou Garden

Built in 1992, Fuzhou Garden commemorates the 10th anniversary of the friendship between Fuzhou City, Fujian Province and Okinawa City.

Kume, which has a garden, was chosen because there is a village of people who were invited to the Ryukyu Kingdom about 600 years ago and moved from Fujian Province at that time.

Many of the ship engineers moved to Kume, so there are ship objects in the city of Kume.

Information on Fuzhou Garden

The entrance to Fuzhou Garden

Let's enter Fuzhou Garden.

There is a guardian dog at the entrance, but both are open.

In Japan, there are "A" and "Yeah", and one of them usually has a closed mouth, so it feels a little fresh.

The inside of the garden is China itself

Fuzhou Garden's Chinese passage

The garden was designed in Fujian and the materials have also been shipped from China.

Since the engineers from Fujian Province helped during the construction in Okinawa, the specifications are quite full-scale.

There are many Chinese-style landscapes, so some people were shooting cosplay.
(Since the number of customers is small, it may be just right.)

The sculpture is also wonderful

Fukushuen Dragon Pillar

A dragon is carved on the stone pillar, which is quite wonderful.

It is also called a dragon pillar, and it is said that it is installed in pairs and has the effect of dispelling evil spirits.

There are many other sculptures in the park, such as the powerful openwork.

Chishuntei

Chishuntei in Fukushuen

The garden is divided into three themes: spring, summer, autumn + winter.

This rotunda is located in the spring area.

The water in the pond is a little dirty, but let's not see it.

Zodiac stone statue

Stone statue of the zodiac of Fuzhou Garden

The spring area is lined with stone statues of the zodiac.

I was particularly drawn to the monkey with an indescribable expression.

Jiyama Waterfall

Fukushuen Garden Waterfall

An artificial waterfall runs through the autumn + winter area.

You can also go to the back of the waterfall and the red building above, so let's take a walk.

Admission and travel time

Fuzhou Garden Bridge

Admission is 200 yen for adults and takes about 30-40 minutes.

You may want to avoid it in the summer as you will be walking around outside.

I went to July but it was hot.

Access

Appearance of Yui Rail

It is about an 8-minute walk from "Prefectural Office Station" on the Yui Rail. (Approximately 550m)

It's about 700m from the southern end of Kokusai-dori, so you can walk there.

Finally

Fuzhou Garden Tower

Fuzhou Garden is a super authentic Chinese garden.

In a time when it became difficult to go abroad in Corona, I think it is a valuable existence where you can feel like China easily.

It is also close to the city center, so if you are interested in the gardens, we recommend visiting.

Personally, it will be my second favorite Chinese garden in the country. (No. 2 is Enchoen in Tottori Prefecture)
