What is Otaru Snow Light Path?
Otaru Snow Light Path is a snow and candle festival held in Otaru every February.
During the event, the entire city will be surrounded by the gentle candlelight and the romantic will never stop.
We will introduce the charm of such "Yuki Akari no Michi".
Main venue
The main venues, "Canal Venue" and "Temiya Line Venue," can both be reached on foot from Otaru Station.
It's OK if you follow the waves of people from the station.
There are about 40 other viewing points in the city, so take a look at the pamphlets distributed on the day and go around the places you care about.
Events made by citizens
The operation is supported by more than 2000 volunteers.
Nearly 500 volunteers participated on the day of the event, such as making objects, igniting candles, and guiding traffic.
Now, it has grown into an event that is visited by nearly 50 people, and was selected for the 30 "Handmade Hometown Award (Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award)".
Introduction of works
Here are some of the works I visited.
As the time for the event approaches, the candles will be lit one by one by the volunteers.
I saw many owl objects, but they are popular because they are the guardian deities of the village in the Ainu culture.
This is called a wax ball, and a candle "wax" is used.
Fresh flowers are also pasted on the surface.
A lot of wax balls were floating in the air, and it was a fantastic atmosphere.
(The most difficult point was to take a picture so that tourists wouldn't enter)

Rabbit and heart.It's a little hard to see, but it also has eyes.
It looks like stained glass.
Volunteer citizens are amazing.

Holding period and time
It is held every year in early February.
Recently, it's the same time as the Sapporo Snow Festival, so it's a nice schedule for tourists.
The time zone is from 17:00 to 21:00, so be sure to take proper measures against the cold.
Time required and congestion
Take a leisurely stroll while taking picturesI think it's about 2 hours.
It's too cold to stay outside all the time, so let's enjoy a hot drink at some store as a break.
You should be able to taste it much more delicious than usual.
As for the degree of congestion, since the venue itself is large, there is no such thing as "there are so many people that we cannot proceed or cannot see".
Access
By train, it takes about 30 minutes from Sapporo Station to Otaru Station.
It takes about an hour by bus, but there are many buses that leave every 1 to 5 minutes.
