Illuminations of Huis Ten Bosch

Recommended for such people

・ I think Huis Ten Bosch is a place with nothing

・ I went there when I was a student, but I don't remember much

・ I want to know how to enjoy Huis Ten Bosch

What is Huis Ten Bosch?

Huis Ten Bosch windmill

Huis Ten Bosch is a Nagasaki theme park that recreates the Netherlands.

People who went there in the past may have the image of "that place where there is nothing".

It's true that there was so little to see that it once fell into a financial crisis, but now it has undergone its own evolution and has made a brilliant revival.

We will introduce Huis Ten Bosch's unique way of enjoying, which is different from USJ and Tokyo Disney Resort.

Huis Ten Bosch now

Huis Ten Bosch Canal

Huis Ten Bosch has been in the red since its opening, but the situation has changed completely since the management moved to the travel agency HIS in 2010.

Under the shout of "No. XNUMX or Only One", we have increased the number of highlights through trial and error in an attempt to increase the number of repeaters.

Here are some recommended points about Huis Ten Bosch.
(I visited in 2014 and 2019)

Illuminations that can be enjoyed all year round

Illuminations of Huis Ten Bosch

HIS will hold a large-scale illumination event called "Kingdom of Light" in the year when the reforms began.

The result was very popular and it became a popular event that continues to this day.

It's a nice place for tourists to do it not only in winter but also in summer.

Illuminations of Huis Ten Bosch

Huis Ten Bosch also has a canal, and the illuminations are reflected on the surface of the water, making it a perfect match.

(Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is also a city with a canal)

Huis Ten Bosch is quite large, about 1.5 times the area of Tokyo Disney Resort.

Since the large site is used for the waste (?), You can enjoy the scale and density that other illumination events do not have.

Flower event is amazing

Huis Ten Bosch's Great Phalaenopsis Exhibition

Originally there was a tulip field, but now we have flower events all year round.

The photo is from the "Phalaenopsis Orchid Exhibition" when I visited.

Huis Ten Bosch's Great Phalaenopsis Exhibition

From the moment I entered, it was amazing.

Phalaenopsis orchids are in full bloom.

Huis Ten Bosch's Great Phalaenopsis Exhibition

This is also an unusual exhibition method.

It seemed to be devised so that even people who are not very interested in flowers can enjoy it.

Huis Ten Bosch's Great Phalaenopsis Exhibition

It's a great exhibit, but the only weakness is that the entrance is too plain.

I'm worried that some people may have passed by.

It will be held in a building called "Palace Huis Ten Bosch" in the back of the park, so be sure to stop by.

Abundant museums

Palace Huis Ten Bosch Palace Huis Ten Bosch

There are many museums in Huis Ten Bosch.

Here are four places that impressed me, but there are also museums with the theme of games and teddy bears.

Giyaman Museum

Giyaman Museum in Huis Ten Bosch

The "Giyaman Museum" is an exhibition of glass crafts from around the world.

It looks like a church.

(Gearman means glass, and the etymology means "diamond" in Dutch.)

Giyaman Museum in Huis Ten Bosch

The inside of the tower is quite large, and works by famous glass artists such as Lalique are lined up.

Golden mansion

Huis Ten Bosch's Golden House

It is a quiet facility on the 2nd floor of "Palace Huis Ten Bosch".

Gold violins are sold for 1000 million yen, and there are gold nuggets worth 6000 million yen that you can actually touch.

Huis Ten Bosch Ruby

Ruby was the most expensive exhibit, even though it was called the "Golden House".

It is a ruby from Mogok in Myanmar, which is famous for producing the finest rubies, and is said to be worth about 6 million.
(There is also a variety of red rubies, which is the brightest and most expensive one called Pigeon Blood)

Even though it's only about the size of a bean, jewels are amazing.

Porcelain Museum

Huis Ten Bosch Porcelain Museum

It is a "porcelain museum" that collects ceramics from all over the world. (Porcelain means "porcelain" in English)

Since there are few modern works, it is a museum for enthusiasts.

However, the room that reproduces the "porcelain room" in the Charlottenburg Palace in Germany is a must-see.

There are so many ceramics on the wall that I think it would never suit Japan, where there are many earthquakes.

Huis Ten Bosch Museum

Huis Ten Bosch Museum

Although the scale is small, it has a well-organized exhibition.

In the past, there were Van Gogh exhibitions and Mucha exhibitions.

Kuniaki Kuroki of Huis Ten Bosch

The "Kuniaki Kuroki Exhibition" held in 2014 was especially amazing.

A glass craftsman in Kyushu, he often exhibits his works at department stores nationwide.

Kuniaki Kuroki of Huis Ten Bosch

There were many interesting works that express Japanese culture with glass.

Kuniaki Kuroki of Huis Ten Bosch

This work is based on the motif of Hiroshige Utagawa's Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido.

This is the first time I've seen glass that expresses snow like this.

It was a great waste that there weren't many customers.

Rich in VR attractions

Huis Ten Bosch VR

Huis Ten Bosch is also focusing on VR (the one who wears goggles that show images) attractions.

However, do not expect USJ level quality.
(The horror VR that was in Huis Ten Bosch in the old days was better than USJ ...)

VR facilities often have long waiting times, so be sure to visit them first thing in the morning.
Only VR requires waiting time in Huis Ten Bosch.

(Digression) The old Huis Ten Bosch was too scary

Huis Ten Bosch's Thriller City

As an aside, until January 2020, there was a horror area called "Thriller City".

Closed to create a new area, personally Huis Ten Bosch has become less attractive by 30%.

Old attraction "Nightmare Lab"

Huis Ten Bosch Nightmare Lab
From the old attraction "Nightmare Lab"

I especially liked the attraction called "Nightmare Lab" around 2014.

Most of the horror attractions in the world are just astonishing, but even after experiencing this, there was a mental fear that would leave a tail.

However, you need to change into a white coat, and you can't enjoy it 100% unless you read the explanation carefully, so there are various hurdles to do in this era.

However, I feel that it is a waste to think that I will never see something of that quality.

I wonder if it will be resurrected.

Old attraction "The Castle of the Dead"

Huis Ten Bosch's The Castle of the Dead

Also, "The Castle of the Dead" was scary at the top level in Japan.

It's an attraction where you can sit in the theater and listen to scary sounds with headphones, but in the dark, the staff hits your shoulders in a timely manner.

It was a great production that can only be done because it is an unpopular facility with few customers. (Excuse me!)

I think the person in charge of horror attractions at that time was crazy in a good way.

Other recommended facilities

If you introduce everything, there is no end to it, so I will briefly introduce other highlights.

Robot House

Huis Ten Bosch Robot House

This is the "Robot House" where the latest robots are exhibited.

Recently, Huis Ten Bosch says that one of its goals is to increase the number of children who are interested in science and technology. You look amazing.

You can experience various latest technologies such as an arm robot that passes a thread through a needle by image recognition and AI that judges the age of a person from the appearance.

At the entrance, the full-scale robot (98-type AV Ingram) that appears in the manga "Patlabor" is also on display.

Castella castle

Castella Castle in Huis Ten Bosch

It looks like just a souvenir shop, but you can sample castella inside.

At the time of the event, you can eat and compare 6 to 8 types of castella, so check the schedule before visiting.

Domtoren (Observation Tower)

Huis Ten Bosch's Domtoren

It is a 105m high tower with the motif of the oldest "Dom Church" in the Netherlands.

View from Domtoren Tower in Huis Ten Bosch

There is also an observatory, so the view is quite good.

There are no tall buildings around, so you can see far away.

We recommend going during the night illumination hours.

Sasebo Burger

Huis Ten Bosch Sasebo Burger

The restaurants in the theme parks are often expensive and the taste is not good, but Huis Ten Bosch is different.

Local gourmet Sasebo burger is recommended because it is everywhere in the park.
(Huis Ten Bosch is located in Sasebo City)

By the way, the definition of Sasebo burger is only "a discerning hamburger that uses local ingredients and starts making after receiving an order", so the taste and ingredients differ depending on the store.

Dutch cityscape

Huis Ten Bosch cityscape

I forgot, but this is a theme park that recreates the Netherlands.

There are also European-style streets and windmills, so the exotic atmosphere is perfect.

Isn't it a precious existence in the recent times when you can no longer travel abroad?

There are still more facilities

In addition to the ones introduced this time, there is also the "Haustenbos Opera Company", which is a part of the Takarazuka Revue, and an athletic corner for children.

We are constantly launching new areas and events, so you will discover new things every time you go.

Recommended route

Huis Ten Bosch Umbrella

Huis Ten Bosch is not crowded, so you don't have to think too much about the route.

Even if you go to Golden Week holidays, it will be free from weekdays at USJ and Tokyo Disney Resort.

Only the VR facilities are crowded, so visit in the morning and take a walk freely.

Required Time

Unless you are a museum enthusiast, you can travel in one day.

If you dash, you may be able to go around in about 4 to 6 hours, but since it's a big deal, let's enjoy the illuminations slowly until night.

Admission and discounts

Hotel Okura in Huis Ten Bosch

The ticket price is 7000 yen for adults, and you can ride the attractions as much as you want. (In the old days, the entrance fee and the attraction fee were separate)

It may seem a little expensive, but let's enjoy it while keeping in mind that the way of enjoying it is different from that of USJ and Tokyo Disney Resort.

There is an early discount, and if you book 2 months in advance, you can get up to 10% off.

Ticket information: Huis Ten Bosch official website

Access

Huis Ten Bosch Station

The nearest station, "JR Huis Ten Bosch Station", is just over 2 hours by limited express from Hakata Station.

It's about 20 minutes from Sasebo Station (fare 300 yen), so staying in Sasebo is also recommended.

I also took a hotel in Sasebo, but it was convenient because it was close.

Finally

Huis Ten Bosch entrance

Huis Ten Bosch, unlike other famous theme parks, does not focus too much on attractions. (It can be said that there is no budget ...)

So if you expect attractions, you are likely to be disappointed.

Instead, flowers, illuminations, fireworks displays, etc. are top class in Japan, so let's go for them.

The event is open all year round, so be sure to visit at any time you like.
